An automobile tyre must have the following qualities :

Load carrying: The tyres must be designed from such materials so that they may have flexing property under load. They also must be able to sustain the alternating stresses produced due to revolving actions of the wheels.

Uniform wear: To maintain good balancing and minimize the wheels' slippage, a uniform wear of the tyre tread is essential. To achieve this property the tyre tread is provided with suitable ribs.

Power consumption: Part of the power transmitted from the engine is consumed to roll the tyres on the road. Therefore tyre material must be of such quality that the power consumption should be minimum possible.

Tyre noise: The construction of the tyre and its tread should be so designed, that it may produce minimum of noise or loud roar.
